Beowulf, Warlord of the Geats, has invaded Gaul to revenge the death of his brother Wulfgar. One evening while hurling rocks from a cliff onto the barge of Roman legions on the river below, The villanouse wench who did in his brother walks right into camp. Xena. After offering to settle this one on one, Xena agrees to ceede bakc all lands taken from theGeats by Rome back to Beowulf should he defeate her. He agrees to have the Geats return home if she should defeate him. Ares, overhearing the deal decides he will not be cheeted out of his war and goes to transport the Geat reserve force to the outside of the Roman encampment.

Runners come back and report a huge battle going on. Thinking Xena has reneged on the deal, he brings his remaining troops to the battle. There he runs into an old flame, Grinhilde. Shocked to see her fighting on the side of Xena he questions her. But before she can answer, Odin and Ares become visible in the midst of the battle. There Odin bares his neck for Ares to cleeve with his swrod. Cathcing Grinhlide in his amrs as she hides her face from the death stroke that none may ahult, Beowulf watches in horoor as Ares kills his God.
